About the Story

Medea

This photographic set was born together with a theater show on Pasolini’s Medea.

Medea as a crossroads between sacrifice and desire Pasolini confronts Euripides‘ text, redefining it and relocating it according to the needs and thoughts of a man who thinks and works tens of centuries later.
According to the director, the problems of desire are not solved but are lived, that is, they translate into an immediate experience, and properly become problems when they are thought of, that is, they are not solved. Desire on the one hand refers to an animal immediacy, but on the other it requires mediation, which is like saying a detachment, a fracture that detaches it from immediacy, from satisfying satisfaction.

As a high priestess of Colchis, Medea represents the sacred in the eyes of others. Whether she creates or annihilates, she always acts in accordance with the beliefs that sustain life and vitality through deep spiritual connections. When contemplated for the first time, Medea presides over a large fertility rite centered on human sacrifice.
