Frida

There is undoubtedly something magnetic in Frida Kahlo’s entire existence, so strong that it has attracted attention even more than sixty years after her death. There is an echo of intentions and her personal artistic urgencies that have ignored time, making it, in effect, an eternal icon, a symbol of vitality and resistance for all women. Frida continually portrays herself, paints her aching body and enriches it, reinterprets it, always imagines it new and yet tremendously equal to itself, in its illness and in its details. Frida is the symbol of the reappropriation of herself, of the scars and pains of every woman, and of the elevation of these elements to art.

The meeting with Azzura was love at first sight, and my choice to do this shooting is my way of paying homage to the greatest woman of all time.
